Nature!
The obvious choice, right? Well, yes and no.
You'll find in every artists toolbox of inspiring places to visit, nature is ranked closest to the top. So what does this mean? Just taking a stroll through the park, or going on a 3 day expedition into the mountains of Madeira? Yes! is the answer. The truth is, that any form on connecting with nature is beneficial to the our wellbeing, our psyche, and our state of mind. Mostly, its about immersion and any kind of nature will do - whatever you can get your hands onto.
Is it the organic, irregular forms that make it so appealing? That wherever you look is calming, curved, and correct? Or is it the wide range of green hues, textures, and light values, that mesh so well together, you realise that they're part of a wider system one cannot comprehend? Or is it the fact that for the last 300 years we've largely started to part from nature, but for the last 300 000 years we were inextricably a part of nature, since the dawn of homo sapiens and before. We are connected to it - deep down.
So immerse yourself where you can, disconnect, and enjoy the joy of everything around you.
Art!
Experience the world of creativity by enjoying other creators creations. Viewing art is fundamental to the process of creativity and hugely inspirational. It doesn't really matter the kind, it could be in an art gallery, architecture, design, a music performance, an acclaimed film, stand up comedy, or any other kind of art. The point is, these people are viewing the world through a different lens, often one in which we did not consider before. Understanding their way of thinking, alone, can be inspiration enough to think of our own works differently.
This vital experience is part of the creative world and we should relish at the idea that its necessary to explore in all its variety. It teaches us, shapes our thinking, and mostly, it provides a lattice work for us to build our own foundations to - the foundations of our our creative work.
People!
Company. Collaboration. Connections. Comradery. These are the vital sources of many-a-persons inspiration. Each of us is a creator, connected closely together by the social goo we inhabit. And each person may inspire us in a variety of different ways, not always well or productively, but definitely. However, recognising the power this energy can inspire can transform a persons thinking in a moment.
Being around already inspired people is like splashing your face with crisp river water after long afternoon hike. The relief, the feeling, is palpable. Seek out these inspired humans, for their energy radiates off of them, freely giving inspiration to anyone wishing it. However, there seems to be a rule - one can only receive it if their intention is true. Nevertheless, these people are not hard to find. It could be family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, strangers, or even yourself. It is the moment, rather than the person. Like after a good workout, or after they've visited an art gallery, or after a trip on safari or in nature, these are the moments inspiration is within them, buzzing.
You never know, you might be someone else's inspiration for them - all the more reason to constantly seek out inspiration yourself - so that the world is constantly in a positively inspired cycle.
Great read, thanks for sharing this, it's a great reminder of how to find inspiration in everyday life! 😀
